Malaysian Grand Prix Betting

The second race of the season takes place in the Asian city of Kuala Lumpur. Dr Mahathir the Malaysian prime minister ordered that a Grand Prix track be constructed, not just any track. He wanted to create a track that would be the envy of the world in terms of its facilities and technology. The Sepang International Circuit was built and it most certainly achieved its goal. The first Malaysian Grand Prix was held in 1999. This years race will be a late afternoon race at 5pm on Sunday 5th April 2009.

The country has Dr Mahathir Mohamad, to thank who had the foresight to see the benefits of bringing such a high profile spectacle to the Malaysian Capital and by doing so was determined that by 2020; the country would be a fully industrialised nation. The best way to do this, it was thought, was through the motor industry which led them to Formula 1 in turn.

The Circuit Details

Designed by Hermann Tilke, Sepang is one of the most technical circuits in Formula One. The mixture of long high-speed straights and tight twisting complexes make the track very complicated, but also gives good opportunity for overtaking as the track itself is very wide. There are 56 laps, with a circuit length of 5.543km and a race length of 310.408km. It is a track that the drivers love to race on and looks set to stay on the Formula 1 calendar for many years to come. The track record is held by Juan Pablo Montoya who in 2004 clocked 1.34.223.
